The Wedding Feast at Cana by Veronese

Photobucket
This is the painting that hangs opposite the Mona Lisa. It is the Louvre's biggest painting. Most people never even stop to look at it as they're too busy ogling the Mona Lisa from a distance behind all the bullet-proof glass. Funny.

  1. That's my favourite painting in the whole museum, just because it serves such a brilliant spacial counterpoint to the Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa is so underwhelming on one side, and this is just so overwhelming on the opposite, so open and complex and inviting.

  2. Yeah that painting is truly superb. So much going on amongst the people and so much to look at... I hadn't realized it was directly opposite the M.L. now, about 7 years ago it had it's own room and it was the main event there, which is much more suited to it...

  3. I also like that your picture has a guy standing in the corner of it, without which we may not realise quite how big it really is

  4. Precisely! Effing huuuuge! I like how it's opposite the tiny, dark, distant Mona Lisa. Like, you turn around and WHAM! So huge.
